Opening equipment for maintenance and inspection purposes requires preparing the system as quickly and economically as possible. Preparation includes addressing contaminants including residual liquid hydrocarbons, hydrocarbon deposits, and inorganic salts and scales, such as iron sulfide. Iron sulfide must be controlled because it may be pyrophoric. Nalco Water has developed technologies and strategies to address each of these challenges.
In the case that there are hydrocarbon deposits in the system, proprietary chemistries may be used to flush the deposits from the system in a rinse.
Nalco Water Enterfast™ cleaning and degassing technologies may be implemented via water wash or steam injection in order to remove residual hydrocarbons and degas process equipment. The chemistries applied also work to modify the iron sulfide to non-pyrophoric forms as it is removing other contaminants.
Our Enterfast programs remove residual hydrocarbons, vapors and deposits in preparation of exchangers, piping and vessels during maintenance activities to minimize costs associated with system preparation. The capability to clean and degas quickly and reliably is a significant benefit to the refiner to safely and efficiently enhance turnaround inspection and maintenance activities.
